Paxrail 557: A Journey of Railcar Restoration
Welcome to your home of all things 557! Refer back to this page for news on this historic railcar’s progress from its current state to fully-restored glory. Nicknamed Bozeman Pass, after the rugged mountain pass the North Coast Limited traversed, this dome is identical to the Paxrail 558, Stampede Pass.
Here’s a handy shortcut to all the blog posts about the project.
Here are some photos of the car as it currently looks, with its original seats, copious Amtrak Helvetica signage, and stainless exterior. These photos were all taken in the summer of 2016.
As more is done to the car, inside and out, these views will change considerably, though we’re working hard to maintain the 557’s North Coast Limited-era heritage, while the car is updated for use in the 21st Century.
